Engaging Parents for Real

There is a strong body of evidence gathered over the past 50 years in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia that supports the premise that engaging parents/carers in their child’s education leads to improved student outcomes. Parent Engagement that is deliberate and focussed on the learning objectives of the student has a positive effect on student learning as well as building better home/school relationship

Participants will be introduced to the body of research over 50 years that supports the premise that engaging parents/carers in their child’s educational experience leads to better outcomes for students. They will be given practical examples of how to engage parents, what works and what doesn’t work in different contexts to engage parents more effectively in their children’s learning. Participants will be assisted in developing techniques  to understand the parents/carers in their schools and how to reach them more effectively.
